Tracy Goss
Tracy Goss started his career in the timber industry in 1993 as an apprentice Saw Doctor at Tachikawa Sawmills in New Zealand. Tachikawa Sawmills specialise in packaging lumber for the Japanese market and mainly use bandsaw heat tensioning. This technology is not widely used in the industry today, but is considered far superior to other technology used in bandsaw tensioning. Tracy spent 2 years working for this Japanese company and gained an enormous amount of knowledge in sawmill maintenance and alignments.
Tracy then began working for Waipa Sawmill. At that stage, it was owned by the government of New Zealand and was the largest softwood sawmill in New Zealand. Waipa’s major market was packaging and structural grade material for export and domestic markets. His time there saw Tracy move from Saw Doctor to Technical Supervisor. In 2002, while working for Waipa, Tracy achieved a Diploma in Solid Wood Processing. Diploma curriculum included education on plywood, pulp and paper, forestry, particle board and solid wood processing and sawmill optimisation.
In 2002, Tracy took a new opportunity as Sawmill Manager with Claymark Sawmill which is also located in New Zealand and specialised in processing pruned logs to clear boards for the USA DIY market. Over the 2 ½ years at Claymark Sawmill, Tracy expanded production from a single shift to double shift and from one to two sawmill facilities attaining the role of Head of Sawmilling.
Tracy then moved into the Australian hardwood industry as General Manager of Australian Solar Timbers in 2005. This opportunity gave Tracy the chance to market timber in both solid strip flooring to engineered flooring through existing and new distribution channels. His time there was spent increasing production and growing market share domestically. Australian Solar Timbers is now the second biggest manufacturer of hardwood flooring in New South Wales.
Tracy has knowledge in the fields of saw doctoring, maintenance, mill and track alignments, project management, contract negotiating, sales and marketing and production management and has a special interest in staff motivation strategies. On a personal note, Tracy is an avid golf player and used to play for his province in New Zealand as a junior and would be useful in an Ambrose golf tournament! Tracy also enjoys downhill snow skiing. Tracy is newly married and is looking forward to a new challenge in his life.
